NEW YORK CITY (March 28, 2000) - The following are the results of the of the
17th New York Open Judo Championships, held Sunday at the New York Athletic
Club. 105 competitors from 16 countries attended the event. Competing in the event
were USA Olympians Alex Ottiano, Oneco Connecticut, and Ato Hand, Colorado
Springs, Colorado. Ottiano won the 66kg Category and Hand finished second at
100kg. The USA dominated the individual competition, winning 4 of the seven
Gold medals, Romania won 2 Gold medals, and Poland won the remains Gold
medal. In the team competition, Poland finished first and Romania was the runner-up.

USA - 4 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze
Romania - 2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze
Poland - 1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze
Lithuania - 1 silver, 1 bronze
Germany - 1 silver
Columbia - 1 bronze
Other countries that competed were: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica,
England, Haiti, Hungary, India, Puerto Rico, and Uzbekistan
